It all begins

Thursday, 21.11.2024. The trip begins, and what a tough start. Snowstorm in Helsinki, we're used to it, 30cm of snow doesn’t really disrupt the airport much. But a snowstorm in Paris? Total chaos! Our flight to Paris leaves with over two hours delay, and the connecting flight to Marseille is canceled. By the time we land in Paris, around 9 PM, it’s madness. Suitcases scattered everywhere, people panicking, overwhelmed staff, and in the middle of it all, a group of Swedes playing guitar and singing to pass time. Honestly, maybe that’s the best attitude in this situation.

We search for our luggage but can’t find it. We give up, they’ll deliver it to us later. The airline offers us a flight Paris-Marseille for Saturday evening, but let’s just say that’s not ideal. Instead, we book a train leaving at 7 AM the next day. We were really lucky, since there weren’t many seats left and trains were fully booked soon after. Ah, the joys of travel!

In the end, everything worked out: we got to our destination just a day late, and even the suitcase, off on its own little adventure, joined us two days later. Lesson learned: no need to panic, stay calm, and you’ll always find a solution.

Once in Marseille, we enjoyed family time and, to both relax and stay active, went for a hike in the Massif de l'Étoile with its stunning views of Marseille.
