On the "Rota dos Milagres"
Everyone told us São Miguel dos Milagres was a must-see, the perfect spot for a honeymoon. So, we decided to stop in the area and spent three amazing days in Porto de Pedras, along the « Rota dos Milagres. »
Porto de Pedras feels like a place where time stands still. No big crowds, no chaos—just peace and nature. We picked it without really knowing what to expect, and it ended up being a real escape from the world.
The Pousada Casotas, where we stayed near Lages Beach, is the definition of a peaceful retreat. From the pool, you can hear the waves and see the ocean blending into the horizon. The little chalets surrounded by greenery, the outdoor-only dining area, and hammocks everywhere—it’s perfect. Days went by with the rhythm of the waves and the breeze : a walk on the sand, a swim in crystal-clear water, or a simple but delicious meal under a tree, swayed by the wind. Everything about it was relaxing.
In the area, there are plenty of beaches, but most of them aren’t easily accessible by road. So, we walked from Lages Beach to Patacho Beach. It’s considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Northeast, and we could totally see why : deserted, wild, lined with palm trees—it’s the definition of tranquility. At low tide, we decided to walk to the reefs offshore to check out the natural pools. It turned out to be a bit harder than expected, and there wasn’t much marine life in the pools. Apparently, we weren’t in the right spot. Either way, it kept us busy for a while, and we got to see the beach from the water. Still, it seems like the pools at Ponta do Mangue might be better.
There isn’t much to do in Porto de Pedras other than visit some local artisan shops and check out the Manatee Sanctuary (Santuário do Peixe-Boi). It’s a rescue center where injured manatees are cared for and fed before being released back into their natural habitat. We got lucky during our visit and spotted two wild manatees in the river, along with the ones in captivity.
Evenings were all about silence. There wasn’t much to do besides listening to the waves and stargazing. Those simple moments, far from everything, helped us reconnect with what really matters.
Porto de Pedras isn’t extravagant—its charm lies in its beaches and the little artisan shops, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s a place where you go to reconnect—with nature, with yourself, with life. We loved it.
